4-H non-livestock projects judged at state fair
Washington County 4-H’ers earned awards for their entries judged in the 4-H Exhibits Building at the Iowa State Fair. These exhibits were on display from Aug. 7-17 in the 4-H Building.
“Being one of the largest 4-H programs in the state of Iowa, we are allotted to send the highest number of projects to the Iowa State Fair. This year Washington County sent 57 non-livestock projects,” said Amy Green, Washington County 4-H/Youth Coordinator. “4-H’ers receive placings based on how they meet their goals and on the evaluation standards established for a particular project area.”
Addison Gaal, daughter of Bob and Krista Gaal, received a special sewing award from Threads Magazine recognizing her outstanding sewing ability from her gray pants 4-H project at the Iowa State Fair. She was one of 12 to receive this recognition. Gaal is a member of the Washington Hustlers 4-H Club.
“We are very proud of the personal accomplishments of 4-H participants in these project areas and the educational learning experiences and life skills they gain,” said LuAnn Johansen, assistant director of ISU Extension and Outreach 4-H Youth Development.
