7th grade girls’ basketball wrap-up
The Washington Middle School 7th grade girls’ basketball team recently finished its season and showed a lot of promise for the future, displaying both depth and skill throughout the season.
Isabel Bailey led the team in points scored on the season with 64. Abbi DeWolf was the top rebounder for the season with 49. Haylee Wilson was the chief thief, compiling 30 steals over the length of the season.
In “A” games, the Washington girls went 6 – 4. In “B” games they went 9 – 1 and the girls won all five of their “C” games. They competed with and got victories over the girls their age from Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk and Mt. Pleasant. Those are the same girls they will be facing in Southeast Conference games throughout their basketball careers in Washington.
The deep pool of talent this group of girls represents will have an offseason to improve before taking the court as eighth-graders next winter. Coaches Lindsey Steen and Angie Shrader are to be commended for the job they have done developing these young student-athletes. If the current results are indicative of what to expect, the Washington Middle School eighth-grade girls’ team should be competitive again next winter.
