9th/JV boys’ basketball season wrap-up
The Washington junior-varsity boys’ basketball team finished its season at 12 – 8, 5-2 in the Southeast Conference. Both of the conference games they lost the Demons came back and beat that team the second time around. The Washington JV team won eight out of their last 11 games with a six-game winning steak during that time.
“I felt that the JV team improved all season long. We became a better team and learned to work harder as the season progressed. I know that some of these JV players will help the varsity in the next few years,” Washington JV coach Ross Anderson said.
The ninth-grade basketball team finished their season with a 9-8 record. Highlights of the season included a 4-3 record against Southeast Conference schools. The Demons got two wins over Fairfield and a win over both Fort Madison and Keokuk. The team also played well in wins against nonconference foes Mid-Prarie, West Liberty, and Williamsburg.
Suiting up for the freshman team this past season were John Dillon, Dylan Kinman, Drake Brezina, Michael Dillon, Noah Enfield, Michael Gier, Mason Rich, David Bradford, Tanner Coleman, Bryce Sinn, Reid Basten, and Ryan Loy.
Team leaders in scoring were Sinn (9.6 ppg), Rich (8.3 ppg), and Brezina (7.4 ppg). Team leaders in rebounding were Sinn, Dillon, Bradford, and Brezina. Team leaders in assists were Rich, Dillon, and Brezina.
