A bad month
A city crew works on a water main break this morning at Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street in Washington. According to Washington City Administrator Brent Hinson, the city has had 12 water main breaks in the last month. He said the highest number of breaks the city had experienced was 46 in a year’s time. While the shifting warm and cool temperatures that have fallen on the city have been a factor, Hinson said that another factor is the cast-iron pipes are over 100 years old. The pipes are being replaced with plastic piping.
