The Washington Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) met at the United Presbyterian Home Campus Center on Saturday morning, May 18, with 18 in attendance. A musical program by talented Washington High School vocalists, accompanied by Mike Jewell, entertained the group. Following the program a delicious brunch hosted by Peg Stephens, Addy Sents and Jennine Wolf took place.
Highlights of the business meeting included the reading of a thank-you letter from WHS National Honor Society advisor Angela Taylor and WHS students for the March reception for the students and their parents.
Millie Youngquist reported that the scholarhip committee had selected two fine candidates to receive $750 scholarships. These recipients are Ann Pattersen and Miranda Hansen, with the latter in attendance at the May meeting.
Karen Murphy reported there were still seats available for the Tuesday, June 11 Fairfield area bus tour. It was noted that the group’s practice each spring of providing speakers to the WCSD Assure Center was once again very well-received. The group was reminded of the $200 Camp Invention scholarships that were being given. Also, the group voted to make a donation to the Ola Babcock Miller maquette project. The meeting ended with members making program suggestions for the 2013-14 year.
