American Association of University Women
The Washington, Iowa, Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) met at the home of Karen Murphy with 12 members and four guests in attendance. Co-hostesses for the evening were Cathy Leazenby and Peg Stephens.
Highlights of the business meeting included an update about the proposed Little Free Library, a partnership between AAUW and the Washington Public Library. There is hope to have a photograph taken of the five charter members with the group's 40-year national recognition certificate. The group received a thank-you for its donation from Lil Perry of the local Domestic Violence prevention group. Members Virginia Bordwell and Karen Murphy passed out information concerning the 2013 greenery and poinsettia fundraiser. All profits from the event will be used for a local scholarship.
A very interesting and informative program was presented by Karen Gorham, John Moenck and Mayor Sandra Johnson concerning the current housing situation in Washington and the work of the local citizen task force.
