American Legion Auxiliary

May 20, 2013

The American Legion Auxiliary 29 held the May meeting Tuesday, May 14. Chaplain Carla McCandless gave the prayer, followed by all attending repeating the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble of the Auxiliary. Past minutes were approved and treasurer’s report was given. Membership report showed some delinquent members not responding to the notices, and state records not up to date.

President Mary Sypherd reported on action at district conference. Silent auction yielded $672. The project of “Quilts of Valor” was attended by Mary and Penny Sypherd. A member of the Fons & Porter show was attending also. The Auxiliary’s car show booth of desserts and baked goods added $120 to the treasury. It had been a cool, windy evening. The proceeds will be given to Air Force members working with the Azores residents to give aid of food and clothing, as the need is great there. This was voted to continue for the following car shows this summer.

Poppy program information was discussed. Information will be sent to those signed up to distribute them on May 23 and 24, and reminders were given of Memorial Day events. Flags are to be placed on veterans’ graves Friday, May 24, at 4 p.m. in Elm Grove and Woodlawn cemeteries.

Team Hope of Relay for Life will have a fundraiser at the “Altenhofen Barn” at 1705 Nutmeg Avenue, June 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be food and a music program, as well as a silent auction and games.

The next scheduled Auxiliary meeting will be in September. Members are encouraged to support summer events continuing.

The meeting closed with the chaplain’s prayer.
