American Legion Auxiliary
The American Legion Auxiliary had the March meeting on the scheduled second Tuesday of the month. The meeting was led by President Mary Sypherd.
Minutes of the February meeting were reviewed and accepted. Treasurer’s report was given, with one payment of post office box rent being paid. It was noted that 60 members have paid the current dues, with several yet expected. New member Marge McClure attended the meeting.
Information on the summer Car Cruise show was discussed, and the Auxiliary will be serving desserts alongside of the Legion’s sandwich booth.
Pop tabs and clipped coupons were turned in to the president for the deployed service persons benefit.
Martha Hahn, the youth committee representative, gave information that the Merit Award choice could be made now. The Girls State candidate, Jessica Schoonover, received information on required forms to complete.
It was noted that the Auxiliary would give $50 to the district president’s project of English River Outfitters, a place for rehabilitation of disabled veterans. This is located in Washington County.
The group was reminded of the county meeting at Wellman on March 23, with a white elephant sale and also election of officers. All Legion Auxiliary members are encouraged to attend. The location will be the Federation Bank building in Wellman.
District spring conference will be held at Shueyville on April 13. Dinner reservations are due by April 5.
April 27 will be a sewing day, held in Auxiliary headquarters in Des Moines, to make Quilts of Valor for the military hospitals. Everyone is welcome for a day of creative togetherness for a good cause.
The next meeting will be the second Tuesday of April at the ambulance building in Washington at 7 p.m.
