Post 29 American Legion met at its regular date with Wayne Brock commanding. Adjutant Jim Peterson reported on finances and membership. Two members have passed away this month, Ted Kruse and Lyle Darbyshire. Guests included Alvin Miller, First District Zone Commander, Sue Gilmere of Post 29 Auxiliary, and Mike Sypherd of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 29.
Sue reported on various projects including assisting veterans at the VA, and handling Poppy Day, which occurs just before Memorial Day. Mike reported on projects of his organization as well: hosting the all-veterans picnic, Christmas programs at the VA, purchasing headstones for veterans, helping with Poppy Day, and installation of flags at cemeteries. He noted that two members hold national offices and two others hold offices at the state level.
Mike Worley, new head of the Honor Guard reported on recent military funeral services the post has provided and noted that last year the post had a total of 28. Lonny Milligan, fundraising chairman, announced that the next food stand duty will be March 24 at the auction barn with another in April. Brock is working on speakers and other details for Memorial Day.
Area veterans are invited to attend any of the meetings held the second Tuesday, 7 p.m. at the Blair House, located at 205 E. Washington St.
