Area girls compete at relays
WELLMAN – The 2014 Golden Hawk coed relays involving six area schools’ girls’ track and field teams were held on Tuesday, April 22 at Mid-Prairie High School.
The Golden Hawks finished with a team score of 149 points. The Huskies totaled 119 points and the Wildcats’ sum was 96.
Hannah Van Roekel won the 3,000-meter run with her time of 12 minutes, 52.67 seconds. Abby Tornow tied for first place in the high jump, leaping the bar set at 4 feet, 10 inches. Lexi Duwa was first in the 100-meter dash in 13.24.
The Golden Hawks (Arissa Marine, Alex Rath, Duwa and Greta Schmidt) won the sprint medley in 2:02.57. Mid-Prairie (Duwa, Marine, Emily Cayton and Rath) also placed first in the 4x100-meter relay in 52.22.
Cayton took second in the long jump at 15-6 ½. The Golden Hawks (Schmidt, Rath, Tornow and Maddi Zahradnek) had a second-place time of 10:54.96 in the 4x800-meter relay. Mid-Prairie (Marine, Faithe Garza, Ali Naylor and Calli Shaw) also took second in the distance medley in 4:52.83.
Schmidt finished second in the 400-meter dash in 1:06.25. Ali Butters was second in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.67 and the 400 hurdles in 1:14.41. Zahradnek and Shaw were second and third in the 1,500-meter run in 5:38.47 and 6:11.8.
The Golden Hawks (Shaw, Jessica Goll, Ally Bontrager and Lizzie Wildeboer) placed third in the 4x200-meter relay in 2:11.11. Bontrager and Naylor placed third and fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:55.74 and 3:01.29. Tornow was fourth in the 400 in 1:07.49.
Shaw placed fifth in the long jump at 14-6. Cayton was fifth in the 100 in 14.64 and the 100 hurdles in 19.84. Goll and Kristina Millice placed fifth and sixth in the 200-meter dash in 30.66 and 30.68.
Kelsey Hora won the long jump at 16-1. The Huskies (Chelsey Lampe, Jordan Rath, Amber Bean and Hora) won the 800 relay in 10:53.35. Sam Dutton tied for first place in the high jump at 4-10. Highland (Brianna Davis, J. Rath, Courtnee Hahn and Cheyann Adamson) also won the 200 relay in 2:00.36.
Alexis Rogers had a first-place discus throw of 75-4. Lampe won the 400 hurdles in 1:13.81. The Huskies (Lampe, J. Rath, Bean and Hora) won the 400 relay in 4:32.71.
McDaniels placed second in the discus at 70-3. Rogers also placed second in the shot put at 28-3. Highland (Davis, Hahn, Adamson and Dutton) was second in the sprint medley in 2:03.04.
Hora took third place in the 100 in 13.87. Highland (Davis, Dutton, Hahn and Bean) was third in the distance medley in 4:54.06.
Adamson was fourth in the long jump at 14-8 ½. Seaira Drish took fourth in the shot put at 24-9 ¾.
Emily Stewart placed fifth in the 400 in 1:14.35 and the 800 in 3:02.62. The Huskies (Davis, Drish, Amy Schnoebelen and McDaniels) were fifth in the 100 relay in 59.47. Schnoebelen took sixth in the 100 hurdles in 20.51.
The Wildcats (Laura Mincks, Shania Boyd, Monaye Matthews and Kelsey Pretz) won the 4x100-meter shuttle hurdle relay in 1:13.12. Columbus Community also won the distance medley in 4:37.68. Kyle Marin won the 800 in 2:41.98.
Pretz won the 200 in 27.97. Taylor Hills won the 1,500 in 5:37.47.
Boyd placed third in the long jump at 15-6. Ashley Canny had a third-place time of 13:45.33 in the 3,000. The Wildcats (Bailey Stroud, Boyd, Matthews and Pretz) were third in the 100 relay in 55.37.
Mincks and Boyd took third and fourth places in the 100 hurdles in 18.94 and 19.84.
Cynthia Montoya was fourth in the discus at 57-9. Matthews placed fourth in the 200 in 30.28. Mincks took fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:18.2.
Canny was fifth in the 1,500 in 6:41.79. Brooklyn Milder and Olivia Cook took fifth and sixth places in the shot put at 23-10 ¾ and 20-6 ½. Stroud was sixth in the 100 in 15.16.
The Mid-Prairie girls will be in action at home again this afternoon. The Highland girls take the field at Louisa-Muscatine today. The Columbus Community girls hit the track at Winfield-Mt. Union this afternoon as well.
