Area piano students win awards in competition
On Saturday, Feb. 4, seven area pianists took part in the Iowa Music Teachers District Piano Auditions held on the Iowa Wesleyan Campus at Mt. Pleasant. Students took a theory examination, demonstrated technical facility of scales, chords, and arpeggios, and also performed three memorized piano solos for an adjudicator.
All the students received a one rating. Additional awards are as follows: Madeline Hora, winner of level E; Anne Buckwalter, winner of level D and theory honor roll; Joya Schrock, winner of level C; Lara Kliewer, first alternate of level C; and John Flannery, winner of level A and theory honor roll. Flannery studies with Margaret Runaas, professor of piano at Iowa Wesleyan College. J. and A. Goff, Kliewer, Schrock, Buckwalter and Hora study with Susan See, who teaches privately in Washington and is the resident piano instructor at Iowa Mennonite School.
