At the Library

By LeAnn Kunz | Jun 03, 2013

Summer Reading Clubs started at the library this week and there are lots of activities for kids, teens and families to attend in the upcoming weeks. Besides the regular weekly meetings full of reading and fun (the kids had live worm races this week and made their own vegetable stamps, while the teens did a maze race with iPads throughout the library), there are many special events to keep everyone entertained. On June 5, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., there will be a Wacky Wednesday movie, free and open to all sixth- through 12th-graders. The classic adventure film “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” will be showing in the second-level Nicola-Stoufer room. Teens who are pre-registered for the Henna Tattoo Workshop can come at 1 p.m. on that day to the second-level Washington State Bank room to create their tattoo (note: there is a limit of 12 participants) and then join the moviegoers. On Thursday, June 6 at 7 p.m., there is an event free and open to the entire family called “Laughing Matters” and your family will want to catch this act! Jay and Leslie toss and catch juggling equipment, have a game of baseball in mime, and will amaze you with the invisible ball. In one routine Leslie portrays library archaeologist Nellie Dingfod back from her latest dig!

With all this excitement, we sincerely hope that everyone goes home from the library events happy and ready to settle down to some lazy summer reading. Make sure to grab some books before you head out the door or check out our e-book collection through WILBOR on our Web site. We love having visitors to the library, but ultimately we want to open up the world to our patrons, young and old, with the love of reading. We like to think of all of you sitting on your porches and patios, near the pool or beach, in front of the air conditioner on an especially hot day, out on the lounge chair under the stars on a late summer evening, or even on a plane, train, or automobile trip while reading a book from the Washington Public Library. That is really what summer reading clubs are all about.
