At the Library
Last week, the library staff attended the Iowa Library Association Conference in Coralville. Unfortunately, the library had to close for part of the day for two days. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but we attended the classes with hopes to further our services to our patrons. I was excited to “check out” two new libraries on our way, North Liberty and Cedar Rapids. This was our opportunity to see how other libraries are cataloging, displaying, and choosing books. Also, we heard about programs they offer at their libraries.
Quickly, we headed out to the conference; we are becoming “over-due”! We arrived and scattered to our appropriate classes. We had three or four to choose from, so we spread ourselves out among the choices. Time for lunch. That was a long story that will never go to print. Soon we gathered back and tried to find the classes that will help us grow. We all took notes and chatted about ideas all the way home.
Friday was on the road again for everyone, except me . They enjoyed part two of day one. It was my day off, so I prepared a small display and gathered the table and décor for the Saturday Senior Fest at the Washington County Hospital. It turned into an enjoyable morning of meeting and greeting and sharing some high points of library services we can offer to many people. As Benjamin Franklin said, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”
