Bennett resigns supervisor seat
Washington County Supervisor and board chairman Ron Bennett confirmed today that for health reasons he plans to leave the board effective Aug. 7.
Bennett told coworkers and the other supervisors in an e-mail Tuesday of his plans to resign. He said that he believes the county recorder, auditor and treasurer would be able to select someone from District 5 to fill the vacant seat. He feels filling the role this way would speed up the process and be able to save taxpayers’ money as opposed to having a special election.
“I didn’t get a good report last week,” Bennett, who has been fighting cancer, said of his reasons for resigning.
He said he has spoken with someone who is interested in filling the position. Bennett said that he didn’t wish to release the person’s name yet, because the individual hasn’t announced he intends to seek the position. Bennett’s term is scheduled to end on Dec. 31, 2014.
Bennett also said he believes Steve Davis, the board’s co-chair, will take over his position as chairman.
