Blaine Goff, 80, passed away May 4, 2013 from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at Bright Kavanagh House. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 13 at 11 a.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church, 4525 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
Blaine was born May 21, 1932 in Washington, Iowa to Maynard and Reeva (Bain) Goff. He graduated from Washington High School in 1950 and completed one year at Washington Junior College. Blaine served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 – 1954 during the Korean War, being honorably discharged as Sergeant. The highlight of his service was Admiral’s Orderly aboard the USS Helena, and as Orderly for then President-Elect, Dwight Eisenhower, in December of 1951 after he had been in Korea to end the War.
