Boys from all over the state of Iowa got a chance to compete under the lights and inside the warmth of the University of Iowa’s Recreation Building on Thursday, March 6 at the Demon Indoor Boys’ Track and Field Meet.
The schools who sent boys to compete included Highland, Mid-Prairie, WACO and Washington.
“I thought our sprinters did very well tonight. I was going to be happy either way with whatever we did. We talked about competing last night and they all competed tonight. It is what it is at this point. They adjusted to the stage and the transition from the hallways to the track very well. They are tired now because I haven’t been killing them in practice. The key word is competing and they did that very well tonight,” Washington head coach Steve Roth commented.
“There weren’t any surprises because we haven’t had many practices. I thought the guys did awesome and I’m very proud of them. Some of the finishes need some work on the distance races. Getting into the groove of practice will help to work out those kinks and make everything run smoother,“ Highland head coach Angie Strobel explained.
Mid-Prairie head coach Aaron Fleming said of his team’s performance, “Austin Errthum’s speed in the 200 was kind of a surprise. He’s an all-around athlete so, you knew something was there, but after not running since middle school it was nice to see him perform like that. Ty Feigenspan was running up with the big boys from 3A and 4A and got the top 2A time in the 800. Our hand-offs were a little rough, so we need to do some work on those. It’s a tough track because it’s so crowded, so we had a couple of collisions. The guys are upbeat and they had a pretty good time. We were open for our expectations for tonight”
