Brighton man arrested after accident
At about 10:15 p.m. on Sunday the Washington County Communications Center received a report via OnStar of a one-vehicle accident with injuries north of 2990 Ivy Avenue, Washington.
According to a press release from the Washington County Communications Center, upon the arrival of emergency units on the scene it was determined that a 2008 Chevy Silverado truck was southbound on Ivy Avenue and had failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle entered the east ditch and struck a tree. The roadway condition was listed as icy at the time of the accident.
The operator of the vehicle, Cody James Sobaski, 22. of Brighton, was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated and transported to the Washington County Jail. A passenger in the vehicle, Eric Michael Harvey, 22, of Brighton, was transported to Washington County Hospital by Washington County Ambulance personnel. He was then transported via AirCare air ambulance to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Information on his condition is not available. A second passenger, Cheyenne Lea Griggs, 22, of Washington, was not transported from the scene.
Responding to the scene were emergency personnel from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Ambulance, the Brighton First Responders, the Brighton Fire Department, the Iowa State Patrol and the Washington County Rescue Unit. The Iowa State Patrol is handling the charges and the Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident and handling the state accident report.
