Deb Roberts was treated to a Mother’s Day dinner at the Hotel Manning in Keosauqua. Those present included her husband, Jerry, and their children, Jason and Jaime, all of Brighton.

Andy Guy received his degree in agriculture studies from Iowa State in Ames on May 11. Attending the ceremony were his parents, Danny and Cindy Guy, with Adam.

Donna Guy spent Mother’s Day at the home of her daughter Deb and Dean Greiner in Brighton. Also present were their children, Matt Greiner of Fairfield and Angie Greiner of Iowa City.

The Marty Schooley family of Vernon Hills, Ill., visited his mother, Shirley Schooley, May 10-12.

Approximately 60 people attended the 75th birthday celebration for Phil Speidel on May 11. It was hosted by his wife, Sandy, and held at their home in Mount Pleasant. Among the guests were his sister, Shirley Schooley of Brighton, and her sons, the Marty Schooley family of Vernon Hills, Ill., and Monte Schooley with Abbie of Iowa City.

St. Joseph and Cabrini Altar and Rosary met May 14. The meeting was opened with a prayer. Plans were discussed for the 40th anniversary celebration of the Rev. Striegel’s ordination. A 3 p.m. Mass and dinner will be held on Sunday, July 14. It was announced that a congregate meal will be served Thursday, May 23, at St. Joseph parish hall. The June committee will serve rolls and coffee after services the first Sunday of June.

Gerald and Rosemary Pacha of Brighton celebrated Mother’s Day with their daughter, Jennifer Phillips, and family in Urbandale.

Lucy Dietzman with Malcolm and Branden of Keosauqua and her mother, Winifred Fritz of Brighton, left for Bates City, Mo., on May 3. They arrived at the home of Winifred’s daughter Rita and Tim Berry, Isaac and Megan, late that night. While in Missouri, Winifred received word that her aunt, June Pauly of Fort Madison, had died. Her funeral was May 10.

Isaac Berry was honored at a high school graduation party on May 4 from noon to 3 p.m. It was hosted by his parents, Tim and Rita Berry with Megan, at their home in Bates City, Mo., with 3.5 inches of snow. Special guests and relatives on the Fritzes’ side included: grandma Winifred Fritz of Brighton; aunts and uncles, Lucy Dietzman with Malcolm and Branden of Keosauqua, Jane Symmonds of Fairfield, Charles and Debi Fritz of Sigourney, and Greg and Deb Fritz of Fairfield; and cousins, Nolan and Kelli Symmonds of Kalona, and Craig and Sarah Sides with Brantley of Olathe, Kan.

On May 5, Lucy Dietzman and sons left Missouri to return to Keosauqua. Winifred and the Berrys attended church. That afternoon, they attended Isaac’s baccalaureate ceremony. On May 9 they attended Isaac’s Odessa High School graduation ceremony in Warrensburg, Mo.

Rita and Winifred traveled to Brighton on May 10. They were joined for lunch on May 11 by Lucy Dietzman and sons. On May 12, Winifred and Rita attended church at St. Joseph-Cabrini. A Mother’s Day celebration was held at Winifred’s home. Providing the noon and evening meals were Winifred’s children and grandchildren, Charles Fritz with Andrew and Jess of Sigourney, Mary Stecker with Bridget Hollingsworth and friend Joel of Fairfield, J.D. Hollingsworth of Packwood, Jane and Virgil Symmonds of Fairfield, Greg and Deb Fritz of Fairfield, and Tony Fritz of Brighton with friend Lynn of North Liberty. The children planted the trees and flowers they had brought Winifred for Mother’s Day. They also enjoyed the mushrooms Charles had provided.

Rite returned to Missouri on May 13.
