Glen Lowe celebrated his 84th birthday on Sept. 8. A family gathering was held at the Brighton Park. Guests included his four children and 13 grandchildren and their families. They enjoyed the food, visiting and the time spent together.
Jason Roberts visited relatives in Lancaster, Mo., on Sept. 7.
Rita Berry of Missouri visited her sister Lucy Dietzman, Brendan and Malcolm, in Keosauqua on Sept. 6. On Sept. 7, Rita and Lucy attended the Iowa football game. Malcolm and Brendan stayed with their grandmother, Winifred Fritz, in Brighton.
Sunday evening meal guests included Mary Stecker with Bridget Hollingsworth and friend Joel of Fairfield, J.D. Hollingsworth of Packwood, and Rita. J.D. had brought a lot of pears, so Rita and Winifred canned them on Monday. They also canned peaches on Wednesday. Tony Fritz cooked the evening meal Sept. 10 at Winifred’s home. Joining Tony, Winifred and Rita were Jane Symmonds of Fairfield, and Joe and Lori Fritz with Julia and Sophia of Brighton. Rita returned to Missouri on Sept. 12.
Jeff and Michelle Pacha and family of Wichita, Kan., spent Labor Day weekend visiting his parents, Gerald and Rosemary Pacha. They came to take in the Old Threshers Reunion and help Rosemary and her sister, Chris Turnipseed of Moline, Ill., celebrate their birthdays. Gerald drove his tractor each day in the parade at Old Threshers. His grandson Ryan got to ride/drive with him. On Sunday, Jennifer and Brian Phillips with Aurora of Des Moines joined them. Jennifer is the daughter of Gerald and Rosemary Pacha. A birthday party was held at Pizza Ranch in Washington. A surprise birthday gift for Rosemary was a stained glass of the Pachas’ barn quilt, made by a friend, Wendel Guy of Washington.
The Mary Circle of the Brighton United Church met on Sept. 10. It was a social meeting held at the Sweet Blessings Café.
The Horizon Committee met at the Brighton community building on Sept. 9. Eleven members were present. They will meet again on Oct. 14.
The Brighton Horizon Committee will host a free chili supper starting at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 3, at the Brighton community building. Ann Williams will present a program on health care reform following the meal.
