Celebrating a month of Thanksgiving?
As I sit here at my desk with computer screen looking back at me, I am pondering the theme of Thanksgiving. When I think of the season of Thanksgiving, a number of things rush into my head, (Family, Freedom of Speech, Freedom to Worship, Food, Finances, Football, Friends.) These are not listed in any particular order. I have no reason to try to make you think that any one of them is more or less important than another. The challenge that I am currently struggling with is “attitude.”
The Bible in Ephesians 5:20 says, “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I believe that both of these verses are challenging us to have an “attitude” of thanksgiving in ALL things that happen. If I am completely honest with myself and with you, I need an attitude adjustment. There are a few things in the above list that I find my attitude is not what it should be. Maybe you find yourself in a similar situation? Maybe we should commit to making the journey together. Let’s spend this month of November working on our attitude of Thanksgiving. Let’s ask God to help us to recognize the areas that we lack the proper attitude. Let’s ask others to help to hold us accountable! I imagine that there is someone in your life that would like that opportunity?
P.S. If we can do this for the month of November? I bet we can do it for the next month, and the next month. Let’s try it out! With God’s help all things are possible!
