Chamber Singers to present 'Season of Light'
FAIRFIELD — The Chamber Singers of Southeast Iowa will present its winter concert, “Season of Light,” on two nights and in two venues. On Saturday, Dec. 15, the concert will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Main St., at 8 p.m. —just a couple of blocks from the Fairfield square — and on Sunday, Dec. 16, at St. Mary Church, 3100 W. Madison at 32nd St. in Fairfield
“Season of Light” depicts timeless holiday traditions in contemporary choral settings, with songs from the 1400s to the 1600s juxtaposed with songs composed from 1999 to 2009. From the ancient French countryside and northern European seas, through Europe, Asia, and the Americas, unity is found in the themes of the global celebrations of light. The songs will ransport the audience through a historical corridor of light, where ancient times comingle with the present day in the seasonal desires for peace, hope, freedom, and joy.
The Chamber Singers, now in their 21st year of performances in Fairfield, are a 20-voice a cappella choir. Marilyn Graber of Wayland is a member of the group.
