Class of '53 holds reunion
The Washington High School Class of 1953 held its 60th class reunion on Sept. 21. A 12:30 p.m. buffet dinner was served to 42 people at the Halcyon House Bistro. The classmates gathered at 9:30 a.m. before going across the street to tour the new Washington High School. An American flag, flown over the Capitol, was presented to Principal Erik Buchholz by David Horsey. Before the meal, Myron Shields asked the blessing and Jack Logan read the names of deceased classmates.
The WHS “Fight Song” and the Class Song were sung, with Halcyon resident Virginia Tschantz accompanying. Former class president Jerry Johnson gave the welcome and thanked the local members for making arrangements for the event. David Horsey reminisced about the class and compared prices then and now. He also had a display of articles, pictures and letters from classmates.
Some members gathered on Friday evening and some on Sunday morning to do more visiting. Classmates were all happy to see one another, and they look forward to a gathering in another five years. Classmates came from outlying states of Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Texas, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Minnesota and Oklahoma.
