Clear Creek-Amana upsets No. 4 Mid-Prairie
WELLMAN — Clear Creek-Amana upset No. 4 Mid-Prairie 51-44 inside Tim Grady Gymnasium on Thursday night.
The Golden Hawks (7-3), who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end, got off to a slow start and trailed Clear Creek-Amana (8-6) by four points at halftime. Mid-Prairie, which shot just 20 percent from the field and committed an uncharacteristic 19 turnovers, trailed by as many as 14 points before using a 7-0 run to close the gap to seven with three minutes left to play. But the Clippers held on for the win.
“This was a disappointing game from an execution standpoint,” Mid-Prairie head coach Marc Pennington said. “We didn’t do the things we had talked about in the scouting report and didn’t execute our adjustments after halftime. This game brought us back to earth a little bit. We aren’t good enough to just show up and win.”
Senior Mallory McArtor scored 15 points to lead the Golden Hawks, and senior Mariah Swartzentruber added 12 points and eight rebounds.
