Columbus boys fall to Wilton 80 - 58
The Columbus High School boys’ basketball team suffered a 80-58 road non-conference defeat at the hands of the Wilton Beavers on Monday, Jan. 13.
The Wildcats were held to just 30 percent shooting from the field in the game, including 25 percent in the second half as the Columbus offense struggled to take control of the contest.
The difference between the Beavers and Wildcats was just four points (36-32) at halftime, but Wilton outscored Columbus 19-15 in the third quarter and was able to add to that lead early in the fourth quarter to give themselves the winning edge.
Senior Kenan Todd led the Wildcats in scoring with 17 points on 8/13 shooting and adding a free throw. Todd also added two assists, four steals and four rebounds.
Following closely behind Todd was junior Chase Finke, whose 15 points included a three-point shot and six made free-throws. Finke contributed two assists, two steals and four rebounds to the Wildcat cause.
Also in double figures was senior Rickey Rivers. Rivers scored 11 points, going 2/4 from beyond the three point line and putting a blocked shot, two rebounds and six assists into his stat line.
Other offensive contributors for Columbus were senior Eli Sents with eight points, senior Alex Mincer with three points, senior Louis Garrrison with two and sophomore John Rees with two.
The Wildcats will be in action again Friday, Jan. 17 at home in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference game against Highlan
