Columbus Community, WACO compete at Winfield-Mt. Union
WINFIELD – The Columbus Community and WACO high school boys’ and girls’ track teams participated in a coed meet at Winfield-Mt. Union High School on Friday, April 25.
In the boys’ team scores, the Wildcats placed second with 130 points and the Warriors came in fifth out of six teams with 50 points.
The placements for the Columbus Community and WACO girls were fourth and fifth out of five teams, with 84 and 58 points.
Angel Rodriguez took first place in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches. The boys’ shuttle hurdle relay (Lous Garrison, Ruben Paz, Carter Colby and Zach Gaddy) placed first in 1 minute, 11.17 seconds. Rivers also placed first in the 100-meter dash in 11.35.
The boys’ 4x200-meter relay (Ramirez, Rodriguez, Ricardo Roman and Rivers) had a winning time of 1:35.27. Gaddy won the 110-meter hurdles in 17.97. The boys’ distance medley (D.J. Beechum, Devon Henry, David Ayala and Josh Keller) won in 4:14.05.
The girls’ 4x800-meter relay (Jessica Cruz, Ashley Canny, Bailey Stroud and Rebeca Neri) finished first in 11:35.74. Kelsey Pretz won the 200-meter dash in 27.35. The girls’ sprint medley (Stroud, Monaye Matthews, Cruz and Neri) took first place in 2:06.33.
The girls’ 4x400-meter relay (Kylie Marin, Taylor Hills, Neri and Cruz) won in 4:36.41.
The Wildcats had a tandem of boys take first and second place in the long jump. Rickey Rivers and Mauricio Ramirez had leaps of 21-4 and 21-3 ½. Those distances are eighth and ninth on the school’s all-time list in the event.
Ramirez and Rivers also placed first and second in the 200. Ramirez finished at 22.75 while Rivers came in at 23.59.
The Wildcat girls’ team had a pair finish first and second in the 800-meter run. Hills and Marin were first and second in 2:34.72 and 2:38.7.
Devon Henry was third in the high jump at 5 feet. Keller had a third-place time of 11:35.23 seconds in the 3,200-meter run. Roman placed third in the 800 in 2:08.87.
The boys’ 4x100-meter (Rodriguez, Gaddy, Beechum and Paz) and 400 (Rodriguez, Keller, Colby and Roman) relays took third in 47.97 and 3:58.15. Pretz was third in the 100 in 13.32. The girls’ 200 relay (Stroud, Matthews, Cruz and Neri) had a third-place time of 2:00.77.
The girls’ 100 relay (Stroud, Shania Boyd, Matthews and Pretz) also took third in 59.61.
Cynthia Montoya placed fourth in the shot put at 29-8 ¼. Boyd was fourth in the long jump at 15-2 ½ and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.76.
The boys’ 800 relay (J.D. Lekwa, Tanner Shellabarger, Darek Tisor and Nick Bloomquist) finished fifth in 11:28.6. Garrison was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:07.55.
The girls’ shuttle hurdle relay (Jalyssa Jepson, Kasey Sutton, McKenna White and Erika Leichty) won in 1:16.44. The girls’ 100 relay (Trilby Frier, Anqelique Frier, Rosemary Skriver and Jennie Greene) took first place in 53.74.
The girls’ 200 relay (T. Frier, A. Frier, Skriver and Greene) placed second in 1:55.62. The boys’ 800 relay (Jackson Roth, Jorge Chacon, Dillion Douglas and Justyn Chalupa) took second in 9:42.98. The boys’ distance medley (Tucker Janecek, Isaac Black, Chalupa and Roth) placed second in 4:19.17.
Blake was second in the 800 in 2:07.4.
Libby Skriver was third in the 400-meter dash in 1:13.52. Sutton was third in the 400 hurdles in 1:16.21. Braden Blake placed third in the 400 in 56.99.
Chacon had a third-place time of 1:02.6 in the 400 hurdles.
A. Frier took fourth place in the 100 in 13.47. Jepson was fourth in the 100 hurdles in 17.59. Josh Shumaker recorded a fourth-place discus throw at 106-2 ¼.
The boys’ 100 relay (Hunter Leichty, Chalupa, Janecek and Black) placed fourth in 51.73.
The girls’ sprint medley (Chloe Butler, White, L. Skriver and Cierra McArtor) was fifth in 2:16.68. The boys’ 200 relay (H. Leichty, Chacon, Gabe Black and Chalupa) placed fifth in 1:50.04. The boys’ 400 relay (Roth, Chacon, Douglas and I. Black) was fifth in 4:05.75.
Mahme Hinh and Leah McElhinney took fifth and sixth places in the discus at 77-3 ¾ and 70-11 ½. That same duo took fifth and sixth in the shot put as well. McElhinney was fifth at 29-2 ¼ and Hihn was sixth at 29-1 ½.
Sutton placed sixth in the 100 hurdles in 18.31. Janecek was sixth in the shot put at 36 feet. Douglas had a sixth-place time of 2:26.45 in the 800.
