Columbus falls to Mediapolis
The Columbus Junction High School boys’ basketball team dropped a Southeast Iowa Super Conference contest, 67 - 45 at Mediapolis on Tuesday, Jan 14.
The Wildcats were able to keep the game close through the first eight minutes of play, leading by as many as three points during the first quarter until Mediapolis answered with a 4 – 0 run to close out the opening period.
From there the Bulldogs took control as Columbus struggled to find its offense against the Mediapolis defense and only managing four points in the second quarter.
After the break the Bulldogs continued to build on their lead, outscoring the 19-6 in the third quarter. The Wildcats began to get an offensive rhythm back in the fourth quarter, scoring 17 points but the Bulldogs’ lead was too much to overcome.
As a team Columbus shot 30 percent from the field in the game and grabbed 30 rebounds.
Junior Chase Finke led the team in scoring with 18 points on 8/23 shooting from the field. Senior Eli Sents led the Wildcats with seven rebounds. Sents and senior Alex Mincer each had an assist. Sents and senior Kenan Todd both grabbed two steals to set the pace for Columbus. Senior Rickey Rivers contributed two blocked shots.
