Columbus wins a pair of SEISC duals
WEST BURLINGTON — Columbus won a pair of Southeast Iowa Super Conference duals at West Burlington-Notre Dame on Thursday night.
Columbus defeated Highland 55-22. Senior 138-pounder Mitchell Roush pinned Highland’s Tyler Frank in the third period, and junior 145-pounder Zac Howell won an 11-2 major decision. Sophomore 132-pounder Austin Edwards won a 1-0 decision over Highland’s Kody Wood. The Wildcats also received seven forfeits from the Huskies.
Highland actually won four of the seven contested matches. Senior heavyweight Devin Mapp and junior 152-pounder Casey Castillo both pinned their opponents, while senior 160-pounder Derrick Stewart and junior 126-pounder Travis Cole both won by technical fall.
Columbus rolled over West Burlington-Notre Dame 72-12. Roush, Edwards, freshman 106-pounder Josh Keller, sophomore 152-pounder Zack King, senior 170-pounder Javier Diaz, junior 195-pounder Mark Ramirez and junior 220-pounder Jeremy Fox each pinned their opponents. The Wildcats also won five matches by forfeit.
Highland also defeated West Burlington-Notre Dame, defeating the Falcons 41-30. Frank pinned his opponent at 138 pounds, and freshmen Ross Frank and Kyle Castillo won by fall at 145 and 160, respectively. Wood won by technical fall at 132 pounds. The Huskies also received three forfeits from the Falcons.
Columbus and Highland will both travel to Lone Tree tomorrow for the Southeast Iowa Super Conference tournament, which will begin at 10 a.m.
