Committee seeks property code
Washington’s rental housing and property maintenance committee met last night at the Washington Free Public Library.
City councilor and committee member Kathy Salazar said the committee primarily discussed proposed city ordinances 147, which addresses rental property registration and inspections, and 157, which addresses property maintenance.
“Back in January the property draft ordinances were brought to the city council to review to see if the city council wanted to adopt those,” Salazar said. “The council decided to have a committee review the ordinances and make revisions to bring them back to the council for adoption.”
Salazar isn’t sure when the committee will be ready to bring the proposed ordinances back to the council.
“They’re two different chapters, and they’re both quite long,” she said. “It will probably take us a couple of months to go over everything.”
For now the committee has decided to meet a couple of times a month on Wednesday evenings, Salazar said. Their next meeting will be Wednesday, March 26, at 6 p.m. in the Washington Free Public Library. All meetings are open to the public.
