Cost of lagoon released
Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer contacted The Journal Thursday, Oct. 10, with the information requested about how much it cost the county to go through the condemnation process to purchase the lagoon site for the proposed Richmond sewer system. The total cost was $166,726, which included $95,000 for the purchase of the lagoon site. The remaining $71,700 was for related expenses including engineering and legal notices.
The Journal also reported on Oct. 10 that the cost of acquiring the lagoon site and the condemnation proceedings would be in addition to the $80,000 requested for the proposed amendment to the 28E agreement between the county and Regional Utility Service Systems (RUSS). At the Oct. 9 Washington County Board of Supervisors’ meeting, Bruce Hudson, executive director of RUSS, said that paying for the site acquisition costs will come after the planning and design phase is done during the interim funding stage of the project.
