County approves letter of support
The Washington County Board of Supervisors approved a letter of support requested by Doug Elliott, director of the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG), during an open session of the board at 2 p.m. Monday, in the county courthouse.
ECICOG asked the county supervisors for the letter of support as part of a grant application for funds for “Developing and Implementing an Economic Risk Assessment and Disaster Resilience Plan project aimed at helping businesses and organizations in Iowa’s Avenue of the Saints corridor better prepare for and recover from natural disasters.”
The item was on the agenda for the 9:30 a.m. weekly board meeting on Monday. Supervisor Richard Young said he didn't want to approve the letter of support until he knew more details about any requirements of the grant.
After Monday morning's meeting, Supervisor Bob Yoder invited Ed Raber of Washington to the afternoon meeting to talk about the grant.
Raber said the United States Economic Development Administration had contacted several councils of governments and suggested ECICOG and others apply for a grant to analyze disaster preparedness for businesses and industries located along the Avenue of the Saints corridor. He said Washington County would not have any financial commitment because of the grant.
