County Fair sheep and goat weigh in dates set
New to 2017 4-H/FFA sheep and goats will weigh-in on different dates at the Washington County Fairgrounds. The goats will weigh in on May 4 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the goat barn. Lambs will weigh in on May 6 from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the sheep barn.
All market lambs, feeder lambs, meat goats and dairy wethers must be weighed and tagged, and all commercial ewe lambs and meat goat does must be tagged to be eligible to be shown at the Washington County Fair.
There is a charge of per animal for ear tags, paid the day of weigh-in.
State Fair and Ak-Sar-Ben requirements for sheep include: members need to determine by weigh-in those animals they intend to take to the State Fair and/or Ak-Sar-Ben. A fee for each animal is charged at the State Fair; any lamb (market, purebred, yearling) going to the State Fair must attend weigh-in for retinal scanning; retinal scanning will be completed for State Fair-nominated animals, and a DNA sample will be taken on Ak-Sar-Ben-nominated animals only.
State Fair and Ak-Sar-Ben requirements for market goats include: members may nominate market goat wethers for State Fair or Ak-Sar-Ben. Goats nominated for State Fair will be tagged, weighed, and retinal scanned on weigh-in day. For Ak-Sar-Ben a DNA sample will be taken. There is a fee for each animal at each the State Fair; and any goat (market or breeding does) going to the State Fair must attend weigh-in for retinal scanning.
Ak-Sar-Ben is a 4-H livestock show held in Nebraska the end of September. This exhibition is open to 4-H’ers and their livestock projects.
