County zoning ends today
According to an ordinance approved by the Washington County Supervisors on Sept. 3, the Washington County Zoning Ordinance is null and void as of today.
After eight months of work, the supervisors approved the third reading 3-1 to repeal the zoning ordinance. Supervisors Stan Stoops, Jack Seward Jr. and Bob Yoder voted yes on the ordinance, with Supervisor and board chairman Steve Davis voting no.
The floodplain management ordinance will allow people living in a floodplain to purchase insurance without a zoning ordinance in effect. It goes into effect today.
In January 2008, the board of supervisors approved a comprehensive plan that recommended implementing county zoning. Writing the zoning ordinance ended early in 2010 and the ordinance went into effect on July 1, 2010.
