Couple exchange wedding vows
Rachel Ann Patterson and Alex Baron Elward, both of San Diego, Calif., were married at 5 p.m. April 21, 2013, at the Admiral Kidd Club naval base in San Diego, Calif., with Commander Daniel Owens officiating. They had a double-wedding ring ceremony. The reception was held at the Admiral Kidd Club.
Rachel is the daughter of Rob and Nancy Patterson of Washington. Marian Elward of San Mateo, Calif., is the mother of the groom.
The bride wore a white satin off-the-shoulder gown with a train, a veil and crystal hair comb. She carried a bouquet of peach roses, calla lilies and white hydrangeas. Her jewelry was a pearl necklace and an heirloom bracelet.
The maid of honor was the bride's sister, Dana Patterson of West Des Moines. The matron of honor was the bride's sister, Lisa Zobeck of Dixon, Ill. Emily Grossman of San Diego, Calif., was a bridesmaid.
The groom was attired in his U.S. Coast Guard dress uniform.
Juan Pablo Samoyoa of Los Angeles, Calif., was the best man. Hank Scoble of San Francisco, Calif., and Cameron Sherr of Washington, D.C., were groomsmen. There were eight military ushers.
The bridal colors were white and navy blue. Mary Erb was the bride's personal attendant.
The bride graduated from Mid-Prairie High School, Creighton University and the University of California at San Diego. This June she received her doctor of philosophy degree in biology. She researched wound healing.
The groom earned an associate degree in fire science. He is employed as a California fire engineer and a Coast Guard Lt. j.g. reservist.
The couple live in San Diego, Calif.
