Couple to celebrate 50th anniversary
Hal and Doloris James of Washington, will be celebrating 50 years of marriage on Dec. 27, 2013.
They were married at Center Street Church of Christ in Marshalltown. They have three daughters, Pattie Madison and husband Jeff of Washington; Sherry Norris and husband Terry of Farmersburg, Ind.;, and Melanie James of Washington. They have five grandchildren.
The couple were married in 1963. Hal served in the Air Force from 1961-65. After leaving the Air Force, the couple resided in Johnson and Indianola. They have also resided in Denver, Colo., Clinton, and for the last 18 years in Washington. Hal has worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, had been self-employed in a cleaning business, served as a minister for the Church of Christ and retired from National Computer Systems as a desktop publisher in 2009. Doloris spent her early years serving her family as a wife and mother and then worked at Indianola Junior and Senior High School as a cook/baker for years. When they came to Washington, she earned her CNA and worked at the United Presbyterian Home for nine years before retiring in 2012. The couple has spent many years volunteering and serving the Christian camping ministry with Midwest Bible Camp, held at Lake Darling Youth Center in Brighton.
A reception will be held to celebrate their golden anniversary on Saturday, Dec. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Central Church of Christ in Cedar Rapids. There will be a card shower, but no gifts, please.
