Crawfordsville High School alumni and friends met at the United Church of Crawfordsville for their 88th annual alumni banquet on Saturday evening, June 8, 2013. The time of the meeting was at 4 p.m., which was different from previous years. This change was intended to accommodate those coming from a distance. Eighty-one were in attendance.

The theme of the banquet was “Flying High with C.H.S.” The tables were attractively decorated in the school colors of red and white. The décor consisted of red roses in vases, along with red balloons and red and white tissue paper flowers.

Prior to the meal at 5:45 p.m., a DVD about all the graduating classes was shown . Larry Fletcher gave the welcome and presided at the business meeting. Ruth Davis Erwin read the minutes of the 2012 banquet. Gerry Chalupa Farrier read correspondence from Maudie Barnes Vadala, Larry Wilson and Joe Rupp. Larry Fletcher gave the treasurer’s report, which was prepared by Phyllis Eisele.

The Doxology was sung in unison preceding a delicious chicken dinner. Much credit was given to Janet Whiting, Ann Lewis, Nancy Rugg and Pam Davis and other willing helpers who made the meal possible

Marie Clark Lowe, the oldest graduate present, represented the Class of 1935. She was accompanied by her son, Don Lowe, a graduate of the Class of 1964.

Those present from the Class of 1948 were Maxine Fulton Martin, Viola Hering Beenblossom, Richard Holmes and Don Monson. Present from the 60-year Class of 1953 were Keith Fisher and Joyce Suter Huff. Those graduates present from the 50-year Class of 1963 were: Doris Griffith Price, Lyle Hesseltine, Ed Jones, Tom White and Larry Williams.

Special recognition was given to Cleo McCoy, Kenny Beenblossom, Viola Beenblossom and Pat Owens for perfect attendance at every banquet since they graduated.

School songs were sung and were accompanied by Lucille Gault Humphreys.

Deaths recorded since last year were Raymond Howsare, Class of 1937; Marie Darbyshire Knupp, 1939; Doreen Lease Main, 1940; Everette Baker, 1943; Dorothy Rees Evans, 1943; Katherine Reschly Lehman, 1944; Daniel Graber, 1946; Donald Rex Huston, 1948; Harlan “Hank” Edgar, 1952; Leroy Banks, 1953; Ben Reschly, 1953; Mary Wirene Howsare, 1956 and Gary Fletcher, 1960.

The committee that planned the 2013 banquet were Phyllis and Lee Eisele, Larry and Donna Fletcher, Pat and Daryl Owens and Ruth Erwin. Chuck and Helen Odell from Oregon also helped with Friday night preparations.

The meeting adjourned with everyone singing “God Bless America.”

On Friday, June 28, 2013, the Collier family will host a going-away party for Stefani Aerni, their foreign exchange student from Switzerland, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the church Fellowship Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.
