The School of Instruction for the officers of the First District American Legion Auxiliary was held at the American Legion Building in Crawfordsville on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013.
Thirty-six were in attendance. Ruth Slater and Helen Lease were present from Crawfordsville.
Lorna Golson of North Liberty, First District president, conducted the meeting and the secretary-treasurer was Gale Fry of Muscatine.
Nearly all county presidents were present, including Mary Sypherd, Washington County president. Past department presidents Linda Sue Mullin of Keokuk, and Mary Littrell of Iowa City, also attended.
It was announced that Michelle Long of the Donnellson unit is now the assistant director of Girls State.
The officers served refreshments in the afternoon.
The ladies of the church are still seeking donations for school supplies for the upcoming Methodist Ingathering held the the first Saturday in November at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant. The Dorcas ladies are busy sewing school bags for these supplies. They also are filling health kits, nursery kits and sewing kits and can still use donations for these items.
