The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, March 10, for the monthly dinner meeting at the Crawfordsville Community Room.

Thirteen members and three guests, Don Foor, Sonya Love-Smit, and Karen Dennler were present.

First Vice President Mindy Rochwick called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Gene Miller offered prayer.

Secretary pro-tem Billie Jo Rose read minutes from the Feb. 24 meeting and they were approved as read. The treasurer's report was given.

Lion Davis announced that Secretary Nancy Love has asked to be relieved of her duties when the new year begins. He stated he would have the roster of officers for the new year at the next meeting.

Roadside cleanup was mentioned and dates will be decided later. It was announced that Dr. Dustin Roth, DVM, at Richland and Sigourney will be guest speaker at the Wayland Club at 6:30 p.m. on March 18. The District Convention will be held in Washington March 28-29. The meeting on the 28th will be held at the Washington Public Library and on the 29th at the Lutheran Church.

Sonya Love-Smith and Karen Dennler, members of the Crawfordsville Community Club spoke to the Lions about Family Fun Night that was held March 15, at the United Church of Crawfordsville. Guests were asked to bring a salad or dessert and to wear green. Meat was furnished.

The Community Club is also sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 5. This is to coincide with the firemen's pancake breakfast to be held that morning. A motion was made by Gene Miller to make a donation to buy candy for this event. Motion carried. The Community Club will also sponsor Crawfordsville's Fun Day on July 5 and will ask the Lions to help sponsor it. As of now they plan a 5K run, breakfast, parade, supper, a band, a bouncy house and many more fun activities.

Lion Don Foor of the Letts Lions Club and trustee for the Iowa Lions Foundation 9SE District spoke to the group about things the foundation does. They help with Iowa Lions Hearing Aids, Iowa KidSight, Iowa School for the deaf and Camp Courageous. His special project is Iowa cochlear implants and he cited many examples of those who had had their hearing restored with these implants. He also invited everyone to a zone meeting in Letts on Thursday, March 27.

Rose will contact the exchange students at WACO High School in regard to speaking at the club's next dinner meeting on Monday, April 14, 2014.

The meeting adjourned.

Spring Cleanup at the United Church of Crawfordsville will take place Saturday, March 22. There is work to be done inside and out. Anyone with questions may contact the Building and Grounds Committee members.
