The Wednesday Study Club met Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the home of Maxine Martin with 11 members and one guest present.
Program leader Janice Twinam introduced the guest speaker, Sandy Weller, who told of her button collection. She has been collecting for 20 years and gave a most interesting talk concerning this activity. At present there are eight clubs of button collectors in Iowa, one of which meets monthly in Kalona.
The next meeting will be on Saturday, Nov. 10 at So Dear to My Heart Bed and Breakfast. Reservations are to be made with Pauline Richardson by Nov. 1.
The Crawfordsville Lions Club met at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at the Crawfordsville Community Room for its regular meeting with 13 members present.
President Steve Williams opened the meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Gene Miller offered prayer.
In the absence of Secretary Nancy Love, Billie Jo Rose read the minutes of the Oct. 8 meeting. They were approved as read. Treasurer Randy Finke gave the treasurer's report and gave an account of the proceeds of the pork loin supper and the pancake breakfast, held in August and September. He stated the club has meat left over yet to sell.
Finke stated money will be sent to the KidSight project for support for the purpose of purchasing digital cameras, as decided at the last meeting. He also asked the members if they would like to sponsor a Zone meeting in conjunction with the club's regular dinner meeting on Nov. 12. The club agreed to do this.
A motion was approved to give a donation to Amanda to help defray expenses due to her recent illness.
Finke explained where the club dues go and what they help with.
The annual Christmas drawing was discussed and the club decided to continue the tradition. It was brought to the club's attention that the local fire department is sponsoring a soup supper, Saturday evening, Dec. 15, the same date chosen for the drawing. A motion was made, seconded and carried to have these two events coincide with one another, with the drawing preceding the supper.
Tail Twister Larry Fletcher entertained everyone with trivia about U.S. presidents.
The meeting was adjourned.
Refreshments were served by the committee of Gene Lintz and Dave and Sherry Cerka.
There will be a potluck dinner to honor veterans and their families at the American Legion Hall in Crawfordsville, at 12 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4. Meat, drink, rolls and table service will be furnished. Guests should bring a dish or two to pass.
