The Crawfordsville Lions Club met at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 11, in the Crawfordsville Community Room. Sixteen members and two guests, Rick Fulton and John Mitchell, were present.
Steve Williams opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and Secretary Nancy Love offered the opening prayer.
After a delicious meal prepared and served by Alice Hochstetler, the meeting reconvened. Community member Sonya Love-Smith asked the club for support in a new endeavor, the Crawfordsville Community Club, whose mission is to revitalize the Crawfordsville community with social events and other such activities. One that was mentioned was a spaghetti supper benefit for Craig Davey as he awaits a double lung transplant sometime this summer. The club voted to co-sponsor this event and will make a donation for food and supplies.
Rick Fulton then introduced John Mitchell of MD Orthopedics in Wayland, which manufactures and distributes club foot braces in over 100 countries. The program for the evening, which was given by Rick Fulton, was a presentation on his recent mission trip to Guatemala. The focus of that particular mission was on wheelchairs and anything else that can give people mobility. However, there is always something to do, building safe kitchens and pouring concrete floors to create new homes and doing just simple projects, anything that bring smiles and joy.
The minutes of the Feb. 25 meeting were approved as read. The treasurer’s report was given. There was a reminder that the District Convention will take place April 12-13 in Fort Madison.
The road cleanup is scheduled for April 6 at 9 a.m. The proceeds from the June 1 car show will be designated as funds for Craig Davey.
Election of officers was held. They are: president, Larry Fletcher; first vice president, Mindy Rochwick; second vice president, Loree Stogdill; third vice president, Billie Jo Rose; secretary, Nancy Love; treasurer, Randy Finke; Tail Twister, Larry Fletcher; Lion Tamer, Mike Massey; one-year directors, Gene Miller and Larry Love; and two-year directors, Rick Fulton and Larry Swailes.
The meeting was adjourned after which a game of "Blurt" was played.
The Crawfordsville Fire Department is holding a pancake breakfast Saturday, April 6, from 6 to 11 a.m. at the Crawfordsville Fire Station on Main Street. This will be a free-will offering.
There will be a Celebration Supper for Craig Davey who will be having a double lung transplant sometime this summer. The newly formed Crawfordsville Community Club is hosting a supper to help offset expenses associated with traveling and living in St. Louis during this operation and for four months after. A spaghetti supper (free-will offering) will be held Saturday, April 13 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Crawfordsville City Hall.
