Demon boys place second at Marion
MARION – The Washington boys’ varsity golf team began its season last night at Gardner Country Club in a triangular against Benton and the host school, Marion. The Demons shot a 171 as a team, good for second place and two shots off Benton’s pace of 169.
“I was pleased with our overall performance for our first time out. Obviously we don’t want to stay in the 170s but that will improve as the season goes along,” Washington head coach Mark Berhow said.
Sophomore Derek Anding set the pace for Washington and tied for the meet’s lowest score at 40.
“Derek’s consistency and his short game have improved from his freshman year,” Berhow added.
Freshman Mason Rich was two strokes behind Anding on the score card. Senior Ryan Waite shot a 43. Junior Blake Weidman and sophomore Tanner Coleman both shot a 46. Freshman Andrew Waite finished the Demon scoring with his 58.
Washington is scheduled to be on the course next on Thursday, April 10 at Mt. Pleasant.
