Demon eighth-grade girls get their first win
SIGOURNEY — The Washington eighth-grade girls’ basketball team got its first win of the season on Monday night, defeating Sigourney 34-25.
The Demons (1-5) led from start to finish. Washington led by 10 at halftime, and took a commanding 15-point lead into the fourth quarter.
Alexi Evans scored 14 points to lead the Demons, and Jessie Buchholz added nine points. Bella Giardino scored five points, and Lexi Redlinger had four. Michaela Roder chipped in two points.
Giardino pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Buchholz, Redlinger and Brenna Weidman each grabbed three rebounds, while Evans and Roder both had two. Grace Shafer and Alexis Turner both had a rebound.
Buchholz and Giardino both came up with four steals in the game, and Evans had three. Weidman had a pair of thefts, while Redlinger, Roder and Turner each had one.
