Demon eighth-graders take two of three from Ottumwa
The Washington eighth-grade boys’ basketball team lost the A game to visiting Ottumwa on Jan. 22, but the Demons won the B and C games.
The Washington A team suffered a frustrating 34-32 loss to the Bulldogs. The Demons shot just 3-for-15 from the free-throw line in the contest and missed several shots inside.
“We battled all the way, and had an opportunity to tie on the last possession,” Washington head coach Mark Berhow said. “It was a good learning situation for us.”
Bryce Sinn scored eight points to lead the Demons (4-1), and he also had nine rebounds, a steal and an assist in the contest. Michael Gier added six points, six rebounds and an assist, and Mason Rich had six points and two rebounds. John Dillon had four points to go with six rebounds and a steal, while Tanner Coleman had four points and a rebound. Drake Brezina chipped in two points, four rebounds and a steal. Collin Zear grabbed a pair of rebounds in the game, and Noah Enfield had one.
The Demon B team defeated Ottumwa 21-17. Coleman had eight points to lead Washington (4-1), and he also had four rebounds and three steals in the contest. John Sands added four points and three rebounds, and Aaron Vittetoe had three points and two boards. Michael Dillon, Matthew Wheeler and Ryan Loy chipped in two points apiece. Dillon and Loy both also had two rebounds and a steal in the game, while Wheeler had a rebound and a steal. John Dillon had two steals to go with a rebound, and Zear had a steal.
The Washington C team blew out the Bulldogs 19-3 for its first win of the season. Wheeler had six points and a rebound to lead the Demons (1-1-1), and Michael Dillon added five points, three rebounds and a steal. Sands, Loy, Dylan Kinman and Joey Deidrich chipped in two points apiece. Loy also grabbed three rebounds, and Jack Carter had two. Sands, Deidrich and Reid Basten each pulled down one rebound. Sands had a pair of steals in the game, and Deidrich had one.
