Demon girls are runners-up
MT. PLEASANT – The Washington High School girls’ golf team competed in the 2014 Southeast Conference tournament yesterday. The Demons posted a team score of 393, good for second place.
Washington was led by Megan Buitendorp, who shot a front-nine 45 and followed that with a back-nine 46 to earn an 18-hole score of 91. That score qualified Buitendorp for all-conference honors, placing her fourth in the tournament.
Sarah Waite shot a 49-49 to put her at 98. Deanna Peiffer carded a 51-49 for an even 100. Brenna Burlingame rounded out the top four for the Demons with her 53-51 totaling 104. Burlingame, Peiffer and Waite all received honorable mention for their scores.
Maddie Hora and Brenna Weidman also completed 18-hole rounds, coming into the clubhouse at 115 and 120.
“Megan and Deanna shot pretty close to their average. Sarah was just a little over, as she had some trouble adjusting to the green. Brenna Burlingame shot well below her average on the day. I am proud of the work she has put in on her game to help us attain second place,” Washington head coach Leonard Kull said.
The Demon girls will be in action again at home on Friday, May 16 in a triangular against Mt. Pleasant and Williamsburg. Sectionals competition for Washington will be played at Oskaloosa on Tuesday, May 27.
