Demon JV girls see their winning streak come to an end
The Washington junior varsity girls’ basketball team saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end with a 40-37 loss to visiting Pella on Tuesday night.
The Demons (10-8) rallied from a 14-point deficit in the second quarter to take a 37-35 lead on freshman Amber Salow’s 3-pointer with 1:24 remaining in the game, but the Little Dutch scored five points in the final minute to pull out the win.
“It was the third game in a row where we came out and had a poor first half,” Washington head coach Jay Zieglowsky said. “But to our girls’ credit, they came out and fought hard in the second half.”
Sophomore Jordan Stout sank three 3-pointers and scored 11 points to lead the Demons. Salow finished with seven points, and junior Dema Giardino had six. Freshman Morgan Kimball scored five points, and sophomore Sydney Hoffman had three. Sophomore Elle Van Gundy and freshman Brynna DeLong chipped in two points apiece, and freshman McKayla Miller scored one point.
The Washington junior varsity girls’ basketball team will host Keokuk today at 4:30 p.m. in the auxiliary (former junior high) gymnasium.
