Demon middle school boys place fifth at SEC cross-country meet
FORT MADISON — The Washington boys’ middle school cross-country team took fifth place at the Southeast Conference meet at Rodeo Park in Fort Madison on Oct. 11, while the Demon girls finished sixth.
The Washington boys tallied 140 points and finished ahead of Keokuk and Fairfield. Mt. Pleasant won the middle school boys’ conference title with 28 points.
Seventh-grader Jacob Van Osdol came in 13th in 14:18 to lead the Demons, and seventh-grader Owen Horak was 20th in 14:45. Eighth-grader David Mares finished 23rd in 15:02, and eighth-grader Kyle Schindler was 37th in 15:50. Seventh-grader Andrew Jefferies came in 47th in 16:53 to round out the scoring. Seventh-grader Austin Stalder finished 52nd in 17:22, and seventh-grader Blake Hartzler was 56th in 17:55. Eighth-grader Collin Zear was 61st in 18:45.
The Demon girls tallied 169 points and finished sixth. Fairfield won the middle school girls’ conference championship with 40 points.
Eighth-grader Mariah Howard took ninth place in 15:30 to lead the Demons. Seventh-grader Makayla Shafer came in 27th in 17:07, and seventh-grader Meredith Raber crossed the finish line two seconds later in 30th place. Eighth-grader Linda Diaz finished 49th in 18:30, and eighth-grader Jenna Engle rounded out the scoring with her 54th-place finish in 18:48. Eighth-grader Maggie Voss came in 58th in 19:14, and eighth-grader Alyson Hesseltine was 61st in 20:17.
