Demon seventh-graders win one of three games at Mt. Pleasant
MT. PLEASANT — The Washington seventh-grade boys’ basketball team won one of three games at rival Mt. Pleasant on Thursday night.
Mt. Pleasant defeated the Demon A team 55-44.
“We had some struggles handling the ball and making good passes,” Washington head coach Mark Berhow said. “I was proud to see us battle to the end in the fourth quarter. We learned a lot about what skills we need to improve.”
Jaivonn Willis and Dalton Meyers scored 12 points apiece to lead Washington (3-2), and Blake Hartzler added eight points. Zeb Roos and Jack Redlinger scored four points apiece, while Jacob Van Osdol and Mitchell Huisenga both chipped in two points. Willis led the Demons on the boards with six rebounds, while Meyers and Redlinger added five rebounds apiece. Huisenga grabbed four rebounds. Roos, Van Osdol and Kyle Fishback each chipped in one rebound.
Mt. Pleasant edged the Washington B team 22-17. Cale Hobsheidt scored eight points to lead the Demons (3-2), and Mason Letts added three points. Van Osdol, Landon Hinkley and Thomas Zimmer each chipped in two points.
“We ran our offense well at times, but we need to keep improving on blocking out on defense,” Berhow said.
The Washington C team defeated the Panthers 14-4. Zimmer scored six points to lead the Demons (4-1), while Letts, Sam Donnolly, John Lisauskas and Eric Sanchez chipped in two points apiece. Lisauskas pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, and Mario Tapia grabbed four boards. Zimmer and Sanchez both had a pair of rebounds.
“They showed improvement in getting the ball to the open player,” Berhow said. “We need to keep improving on running the offense.”
