Down Memory Lane
This photo was taken during the winter of 1979. The caption reads:
MAIL MUST GO THROUGH. — Even if it means getting down on your knees to retrieve letters, as postman Bob Shelman has to do to empty the mailbox at the corner of South Fourth Avenue and Van Buren Street. The box is usually chest high, but heavy winter snows have piled up to surround it in a sea of white. Shelman and his mail service comrades have had it tough this winter, climbing mountains of snow to keep the mail moving.
