MOUNT PLEASANT — Elizabeth Ellen Parriott, 88, of Mount Pleasant, died Thursday, April 13, 2017, in New London Specialty Care.
Open visitation began at 9 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant. Funeral services followed the visitation, at 1 p.m., Wednesday at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Hess of the Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to New London Specialty Care in her memory.
Mrs. Parriott was born Feb. 6, 1929, in Bayard, Nebraska, the daughter of William and Maude (Triplett) Koros. She married Lyle R. Parriott Sr. on Oct. 11, 1946, in Bridgeport, Nebraska.
She spent her formative years and received her education in Nebraska. For many years, she worked as a certified nurses assistant at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, and retired from that position. While living in Mount Pleasant, she nurtured her faith and was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She assisted with Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and was a leader in the Cubbies group of the Awanas Club children’s ministry. She was very musical and loved to sing, as well as play the guitar, mandolin, piano and organ. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are three sons, Lyle Parriott Jr. and wife Janet of Mount Pleasant, Cliff Parriott and wife Bonnie of Davenport, and Will Parriott of Washington; three daughters, Jennie Dorsch and husband Gary of Pinewood Springs, Colorado, Judith Streit and husband Bill of Cedar Rapids, and Joanna Shaff and husband Michael of Westminster, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle, on Jan. 4, 1982; one brother, George Koros; two sisters, Betty Fox, and Violet Parriott; and one stepsister, Ruby Mueller.
