Employee allegedly steals from Riverside Casino
RIVERSIDE — An employee working at Riverside Casino and Golf Resort has been charged with theft.
Karen A. Madison, 45, of West Illinois, Ill., was arrested on Aug. 18 in the 3100 block of Highway 22 in Riverside, according to the Washington County Com-munications Center call log.
Madison’s court record said she has been charged with two counts of second-degree theft after law enforcement officers did an investigation. The thefts allegedly happened during the time period of May 5 to Aug. 6, and were valued more than $1,000 and less than $10,000 by taking money belonging to the Riverside Casino through canceling and altering cash transactions during her shifts at Ripple Express.
According to the court record, Madison would charge customers at the Ripple Express in the casino and get the money from them. Then she would make change for the customers, cancel their order, and ring up an item with lesser value, such as an 85-cent doughnut. She would allegedly steal the difference between the original order and the amount charged for the cheaper item, her court record said.
Thefts were documented by video surveillance and a point-of-sale system the casino uses, the court record said.
Madison was detained pending further court proceedings, her court record said.
