Encouraging healthy communities
The Wellmark Foundation presented a $16,355 grant to Healthy Henry County Communities Thursday afternoon at WACO Elementary. Attending the presentation were, from left, Brandy Parsons, PTO president; Todd Werner, WACO High School principal; Kelly Carr, Healthy Communities coordinator; Todd Meyer, WACO School Board member; Travis Johnson, community health director; Brant Snakenberg, WACO Elementary principal; and Matt McGarvey, director of the Wellmark Foundation. The grant will be used to implement a Walking School Bus project to encourage students at schools around Henry County to walk to school. Healthy Communities will work with the WACO School District to implement the program, then roll the program out to additional school districts in Henry County. The program is scheduled to launch this spring. Of 135 grant requests, Wellmark chose Healthy Henry County as one of 10 grants awarded.
